Evidence AddedView practice →Shopify offers AI-powered business analytics through Sidekick, which analyzes store data — including sales trends, inventory, and customer behavior — and produces plain-language explanations of business performance alongside actionable recommendations.
Merchants can ask Sidekick questions such as 'Why did sales decline last month?' and receive a multi-factor analysis drawing on inventory levels, marketing campaign data, and seasonal trends. As of the Winter '26 Edition, the 'Sidekick Pulse' feature proactively surfaces performance insights and growth opportunities before merchants ask, running analyses in the background. The system is trained on both Shopify's platform-wide commerce data and the individual merchant's store data. Cohort analysis reports in the Shopify admin can also display AI-generated projections of future customer spending.

Shopify offers the Shopify Dev Assistant and AI Toolkit, an AI-powered development tool that helps third-party developers build Shopify apps and themes by generating validated code, scaffolding apps, and answering questions using Shopify's official documentation and API schemas.
The Shopify Dev Assistant is accessible both within the Shopify developer documentation (shopify.dev) and via the Shopify Dev MCP server, which connects to supported coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, and VS Code. The AI can scaffold complete Shopify apps, generate GraphQL queries and mutations against the Shopify Admin API, write Liquid templates validated against Shopify schemas, and execute store management operations. As of April 2026, the toolkit also includes an AI-powered self-review tool that checks app submissions against App Store requirements before developers submit them for human review. The toolkit is available at no cost and does not require authentication for the Dev MCP server component.
Shopify offers Semantic Search, an AI-powered search feature available through the Search & Discovery app that goes beyond matching exact keywords to understand shopper intent, related concepts, and product attributes, returning more relevant results.
Available to merchants on the Shopify, Advanced, and Plus plans with fewer than 200,000 products, Semantic Search uses AI to associate related words, concepts, and product image data — such as colors and text within images — to expand and improve storefront search results. For example, a search for 'christmas party shoes' can surface red pumps even if no product description uses that exact phrase. The feature is activated by merchants through the Search & Discovery app settings and does not apply to predictive search or the Japanese locale. It was expanded to Shopify and Advanced plan merchants in June 2024, having previously been limited to Shopify Plus.
