Practice documented: Krafton uses AI-powered text-to-speech (TTS) and voice conversion technologies, developed internally by Krafton AI, to generate character voices for game production without relying solely on voice actors. Krafton's CFO publicly stated in 2024 that TTS generates voice recordings that fit game characteristics and helps save development time and costs.

Productivity

Practice documented: Krafton uses reinforcement learning-based AI bots to automate game testing, measure difficulty levels, and generate test scenarios for quality assurance in its games, particularly PUBG. The company's CFO confirmed in a 2024 earnings call that Krafton has 'built a system whereby we use reinforced learning to design games and measure difficulty levels, and to build bots automatically.'

Creative Gen

Practice documented: Krafton uses its own large language model technology to generate 'unlimited' dynamic dialogue for non-player characters in its games, replacing a prior approach of paying human authors to write fixed game scripts. This was confirmed by Krafton's CFO in a 2024 earnings call.

Practice documented: Krafton integrated an on-device small language model into its life simulation game inZOI to power 'Smart Zoi' characters — AI-driven non-player characters that form their own thoughts, adjust their behavior based on experiences, and interact with players and each other in lifelike ways. The feature was included as an experimental option at inZOI's early access launch in March 2025.

Productivity

Practice documented: Krafton deployed an internal AI system called KRIS (Krafton Intelligence System) that connects dispersed company data into a unified database and provides personalized answers to employee questions. Krafton later open-sourced an external version of this system called Terminus KIRA in February 2026.

Krafton integrated an on-device small language model into its life simulation game inZOI to power 'Smart Zoi' characters — AI-driven non-player characters that form their own thoughts, adjust their behavior based on experiences, and interact with players and each other in lifelike ways. The feature was included as an experimental option at inZOI's early access launch in March 2025.

Krafton partnered with NVIDIA to build 'Smart Zoi' using NVIDIA ACE technology and an on-device Small Language Model (SLM). Unlike traditional rule-based NPCs with scripted behavior, Smart Zois process personality traits, situational context, and accumulated life experiences to generate dynamic decisions. The system runs entirely on the player's local device (no cloud connection required), supporting data privacy and low latency. Players can optionally enable this experimental feature.

Krafton offers players in inZOI the ability to generate custom clothing textures from text prompts and convert 2D images into 3D in-game objects using on-device generative AI tools. These features have been available since inZOI's early access launch in March 2025.

The texture generation system (called 'AI Texture') is trained on approximately 20 million commercially-licensed images using MOSAICML's Common Canvas methodology. The '3D Printer' feature converts uploaded 2D images into usable 3D furniture or accessory assets within the game using AI trained on roughly 46,000 high-quality 3D models. Krafton confirmed on its Steam page and in public disclosures that all training data consists of copyright-cleared material. A third feature, Video-to-Motion (V2M), allows players to upload video footage to generate custom character animations.

Krafton tested an AI teammate called 'PUBG Ally' inside PUBG: Battlegrounds, which players can squad up with in Arcade Mode; the AI communicates by voice, adapts strategies in real time, fetches items, and assists with revives. Public playtesting in PUBG: Battlegrounds Arcade Mode began in early 2026.

PUBG Ally is built using NVIDIA ACE technology and an on-device Small Language Model (SLM) trained specifically on PUBG game knowledge, including map layouts, item attributes, and terminology. The system supports English, Korean, and Chinese voice communication. Because it runs entirely on the player's local device, latency is very low. Krafton described this as a pilot phase and announced plans to refine the system based on user feedback before broader rollout.
