Project Bernini was developed by the Autodesk AI Lab within Autodesk Research and announced in May 2024. It was trained on ten million diverse publicly available 3D shapes, including CAD models and organic forms. Unlike general-purpose 3D generators, Bernini focuses on generating structurally sound geometry — for example, ensuring a generated water pitcher is hollow and watertight. Autodesk described it as a proof-of-concept and did not announce a commercial release date; it seeded the later neural CAD foundation model work announced at AU 2025.
